Product Overview

AquaZyme is a fast-acting, all-natural microbial solution engineered to effectively clean minor oil and fuel spills on water surfaces and in soil. It features a concentrated blend of beneficial, hydrophobic archaea microbes within an adsorbent powder that activates upon contact with water. These hydrophobic microbes are designed to stay with the hydrocarbon contaminant, travelling along with it, safely breaking it down into harmless, non-toxic byproducts.

Trusted for both industrial and environmental applications—from small fuel leaks to pond cleanups—AquaZyme is organic, non-GMO, and free from chemicals, ensuring it is safe for people, wildlife, and aquatic ecosystems.

Product Description

Key Benefits

  • Rapid hydrocarbon breakdown: Degrades crude oil, gasoline, diesel, and lubricants into non-toxic byproducts
  • Activated by water: Effective in fresh, salt, and brackish water environments
  • All-natural & sustainable: Non-GMO, chemical-free microbial solution
  • Environmentally safe: Non-toxic and safe for fish, wildlife, and aquatic ecosystems when used as directed
  • Simple application: Apply dry or as a slurry directly to water surfaces
  • Supports natural restoration: Breaks hydrocarbons into simpler, non-toxic compounds through natural biological processes

How it Works

AquaZyme harnesses a specialized blend of hydrocarbon-degrading archaea and beneficial microbes from The Oppenheimer Formula to biologically break down oil and fuel contaminants on water surfaces. When activated by non-chlorinated water, these microbes attach to hydrocarbons and begin converting them into simpler, non-toxic compounds through natural metabolic processes - supporting safe, effective environmental restoration.

Ideal For

  • Water surfaces (ponds, lakes, canals, wetlands)
  • Bilges and oil-water separators
  • Shorelines, marshes, and other sensitive aquatic environments
  • Freshwater, brackish, and marine ecosystems

Works On

Petroleum Fuels

  • Fossil Fuel Hydrocarbons
  • Crude Oil
  • Gasoline
  • Diesel
  • Kerosene
  • Marine Fuels
  • Heating Oils

Lubricants & Oil

  • Motor Oils
  • Hydraulic Fluids

Surface Water & Pond Issues

  • Excess Nutrient Load (Supports Algae Reduction, Not the Treatment Of)
  • Organic Turbidity
  • Liquifies Aquaculture Waste

Safety & Environmental Compliance

AquaZyme is an all-natural, non-GMO microbial solution formulated for safe use in aquatic environments. It is non-toxic, pathogen-free, and safe for fish, wildlife, livestock, and surrounding ecosystems when used as directed. The product does not meet OSHA criteria for hazardous classification and contains no harsh chemicals or synthetic additives. AquaZyme is stable, non-reactive under normal conditions, and safe to handle using standard good hygiene practices. For best performance and safety, avoid contact with chlorine, disinfectants, and other antimicrobial chemicals that may inhibit microbial activity.

Usage Instructions

Application Method

Mix product in water to activate microbes activity. Use a clean container and mix until evenly dispersed.

Apply mixture directly to the water surface as a slurry. Broadcast across multiple locations for best dispersion and coverage.

Repeat applications based on contamination levels, and desired maintenance schedule.

For best results: Maintain consistent dosing and allow microbes to establish in the system.

Recommended Application Rates

Area

Method

Ponds, marshlands, Lakes & Surface Water

• Dry – Application - 1 lb. will treat 100 sq. ft (10×10 ft area)
• Slurry - Mix 1oz. into 1 gal. of water - 1lb. will treat 200 sq. ft of surface.

Bilges and Oil/Water Separators

• Routine Use: Mix 1oz. into 1 gal. of water, 8oz. per 500 gal. of holding capacity

Important Considerations

⚠ Please read before using product.

Contact between the product and whatever compound it’s recycling or degrading is essential, without direct contact the microbes will not work.

Aeration: Increases oxygen availability enhances microbial efficiency and speeds organic breakdown.

Chemicals: Avoid use alongside algaecides, disinfectants, chlorine, or harsh cleaners, as these may inhibit microbial activity.

Temperature: Microbes perform best between 32°F–120°F; extreme cold may slow activity.

Storage: Keep sealed, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Do not allow moisture into the container.

Environmental Safety: Safe for fish, livestock, wildlife, plants, and aquatic ecosystems when used as directed.

Is AquaZyme safe for aquatic environments?

Yes. AquaZyme is non-toxic, non-GMO, and pathogen-free. When used as directed, it is safe for fish, wildlife, plants, wetlands, and marine ecosystems.

What types of spills can AquaZyme treat?

AquaZyme targets a wide range of petroleum hydrocarbons, including diesel, gasoline, marine fuels, motor oils, hydraulic fluids, and light-to-medium surface films and sheens. It is designed for use on water surfaces such as ponds, lakes, canals, wetlands, retention basins, and shoreline water zones.

What water conditions activate AquaZyme?

AquaZyme activates upon contact with fresh, salt, or brackish water (non-chlorinated recommended). The microbes become active when hydrated and begin attaching to hydrocarbons.

How quickly does AquaZyme begin working?

AquaZyme begins working upon contact with hydrocarbons. Breakdown speed depends on contamination type, temperature, oxygen availability, and environmental conditions. Fresh spills typically respond faster than weathered contamination.

How much product should I use?

Application rates depend on contamination level and surface area. Typical guidance:

Dry broadcast: 1 lb treats approximately 100 sq ft

Slurry application: 1 lb treats approximately 200 sq ft of water surface

Repeat applications may be used for heavier contamination or maintenance.

Do I need to mix AquaZyme before applying?

No. AquaZyme may be applied dry directly to the water surface or mixed with water as a slurry for broader dispersion. Water activates the microbes automatically.

Will AquaZyme sink?

No. AquaZyme is designed to remain at the hydrocarbon–water interface, allowing it to contact and break down surface oils and fuels where contamination is concentrated.

Does AquaZyme remove heavy metals?

AquaZyme does not degrade heavy metals. However, microbial activity may help stabilize or bind certain metals. Separate remediation strategies may be required for heavy-metal contamination.

Can AquaZyme be used in moving water?

Yes, but best performance occurs in contained or slower-moving water where the product has more time to contact hydrocarbons.

How should AquaZyme be stored?

Store sealed in a cool, dry location away from moisture and direct sunlight. AquaZyme has a shelf life of 5+ years when stored properly.
