Product Overview

BioZorb is a lightweight, natural adsorbent material infused with a powerful microbial consortium designed to capture, contain, and biodegrade hydrocarbons on contact. Once applied to oil-contaminated soil or hard surfaces, BioZorb both absorbs free product and immediately begins breaking down hydrocarbons into harmless byproducts.

Ideal for industrial sites, maintenance areas, transportation yards, and minor spills on soil, BioZorb offers a rapid, environmentally safe cleanup method that prevents spread, reduces environmental impact, and restores contaminated areas more efficiently than absorbents alone.

BioZorb is non-toxic, and safe for workers, equipment, and the environment.

Product Description

Key Benefits

  • Dual-action cleanup: Absorbs free hydrocarbons while supporting natural biological degradation
  • Prevents spread of contamination: Captures free product quickly to limit migration in soil
  • Supports soil restoration: Enhances natural biodegradation and helps restore balanced soil activity
  • Reduces waste volume: Lowers contaminated material requiring disposal compared to absorbents alone
  • Non-toxic & environmentally responsible: Safe for workers, equipment, and surrounding environments when used as directed
  • Simple application: Apply directly to contaminated soil or gravel for immediate containment and treatment

How it Works

BioZorb uses a hydrophobic mineral matrix to rapidly adsorb petroleum hydrocarbons, capturing free product and containing contamination at the source. Once hydrated, the embedded microbial consortium activates and begins biologically breaking down hydrocarbons into simpler, non-toxic byproducts through natural metabolic processes.

This combined adsorption-and-biodegradation approach allows BioZorb to both stabilize contamination immediately and support ongoing remediation within the soil, helping reduce environmental impact and restore contaminated areas under proper environmental conditions.

Ideal For

  • Fossil fuel hydrocarbon contamination in soil and land environments
  • Fuel spills and leaks impacting soil or gravel
  • Maintenance and operational hydrocarbon releases in soil environments
  • Pesticide and herbicide residue in soil under biological treatment conditions
  • Sites requiring rapid containment and biological remediation of hydrocarbon contamination

Works On

Hydrocarbon Absorption & Degradation

  • Oil & Fuel Spills
  • Hydraulic Fluid Leaks
  • Diesel, Gasoline, Kerosene
  • Lubricants, Greases, Solvents

Operational Environments

  • Rail Yards & Transportation Depots
  • Machinery Pads & Shop Areas
  • Soil or Gravel Impacted by Leaks or Spills

Environmental Restoration

  • Prevents Spread of Contamination
  • Increases Natural Biodegradation in Soil
  • Reduces Cleanup and Disposal Volume

Safety & Environmental Compliance

BioZorb is a non-toxic microbial adsorbent designed for safe use in environmental remediation. The product does not meet OSHA criteria for hazardous classification, and microbial components are considered low-risk (Class 1). When handled properly, BioZorb is safe for workers, equipment, and surrounding environments.

The material is stable and non-reactive under normal conditions. Standard good industrial hygiene practices are recommended, including minimizing dust generation and avoiding inhalation of fine particles. The product should be stored dry and handled according to recommended safety guidelines.

BioZorb is not classified as environmentally hazardous, but saturated material should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations for contaminated solids. Avoid mixing with strong oxidizers, disinfectants, or chemical sanitizers that may inhibit microbial activity.

Usage Instructions

Application Method

Step 1 - Apply to Spill Area: Spread BioZorb evenly over the contaminated surface or soil. Make sure all visible free product is covered.

Step 2 - Work In as Needed: Use a broom, rake, or mechanical tool to contact hydrocarbons thoroughly.

Step 3 - Remove Excess Adsorbent: Sweep or collect saturated material. Remaining BioZorb continues biodegradation within the surface or soil.

Step 4 - Activate with Water: Lightly mist the treated area to begin microbial breakdown of hydrocarbons.

Step 5 - Monitor & Reapply if Needed: Repeat until contamination is fully remediated.

Recommended Application Rates

Area

Application Details

Hard Surfaces (Concrete, Asphalt)

• Apply ½–1 inch layer directly on spill
• Allow BioZorb to absorb free product
• Work lightly into surface if needed
• Sweep up excess and dispose per regulations
• Rinse or lightly mist area to activate microbes for final cleanup

Soil & Gravel

• Apply 1–2 lbs per sq ft, depending on severity
• Work BioZorb into the top 1–3 inches of soil
• Water lightly to activate microbial degradation
• Repeat as needed until hydrocarbons are fully remediated

Emergency Spill Response

For fresh spills: Apply immediately to contain spread
For standing oil: Build a perimeter berm, then cover spill center
After absorption: Collect excess material, then treat underlying soil with hydration for biodegradation

Reapplication

Heavily contaminated areas may require reapplication every 1–3 weeks depending on depth and type of hydrocarbons.

Important Considerations

⚠ Please read before using product.

Contact between the product and whatever compound it’s recycling or degrading is essential, without direct contact the
microbes will not work.

Safe for workers, equipment, and outdoor environments

Ideal for both emergency spill response and long-term maintenance programs

Not a chemical dispersant or surfactant — contamination is biologically degraded, not relocated

What does BioZorb do?

BioZorb is a dual-action remediation solution that absorbs petroleum hydrocarbons and supports their biological breakdown in contaminated soil. It helps contain contamination while promoting natural biodegradation.

Where can BioZorb be used?

BioZorb is designed for soil and gravel environments impacted by hydrocarbon contamination. It is suitable for land-based spill response, maintenance areas, and environmentally impacted soil.

What contaminants can BioZorb treat?

BioZorb supports the cleanup of petroleum hydrocarbons including oil, diesel, gasoline, fuel oils, lubricants, greases, and similar hydrocarbon residues. It may also assist in reducing certain pesticide and herbicide residues in soil under appropriate conditions.

How does BioZorb work?

The product first absorbs and contains hydrocarbons using a hydrophobic mineral matrix. When hydrated, the embedded microbes activate and begin biologically degrading hydrocarbons through natural metabolic processes. Direct contact with contamination is essential for effective treatment.

Is BioZorb safe to use?

Yes. BioZorb is non-toxic and not classified as hazardous. The microbial population is considered low-risk, and the product is safe when handled according to recommended guidelines.

How much product should be applied?

Typical application for soil and gravel is 1–2 lbs per sq ft, depending on contamination severity. The material should be worked into the top layer of soil and lightly hydrated to activate biodegradation. Repeat applications may be required for heavier contamination.

Does BioZorb remove heavy metals?

No. Heavy metals are not biologically degraded. Separate remediation methods may be required for heavy-metal contamination.

What conditions help BioZorb work best?

Optimal performance occurs when the product has direct contact with hydrocarbons and when adequate moisture is present. Avoid use with disinfectants, strong oxidizers, or chemical sanitizers that may inhibit microbial activity.

How should BioZorb be stored?

Store sealed in a dry location away from moisture. The product has a shelf life of 5+ years when stored properly.
